Large Chandeliers, page 2 (423 items)

More than 400 large crystal chandeliers for spaces where an ordinary light fitting is not enough — entrance halls, staircases, state rooms and churches. Every fitting in the ArtCrystal Tomeš range is made in the Czech Republic from genuine Bohemian crystal.

Installation is carried out by our own technicians, experienced in work at great heights, in places that are hard to reach, and in listed buildings.

Does no catalogue size fit your hall? We will design a bespoke fitting — the diameter, the overall height, the number of tiers and the length of the chain to suit the particular space.

Would you like to know how the chandelier you have in mind will sit in your interior in size and style? Send us a photograph of the room and we will prepare a visualisation free of charge.

Large chandeliers by style and finish

A large chandelier becomes part of the architecture of a room. Besides diameter and height, what decides is its silhouette, how it is divided into tiers and how it relates to the decoration around it. The range offers these finishes:

— Crystal Chandeliers Large — generously sized arm and trimming models that make a strong focal point in an entrance hall, on a staircase or in a function room.

— Brass Chandeliers Large — the ideal answer when it is above all the decorative metal and the period character that should come to the fore.

— Ceiling Lights Crystal Large — the shape of these fittings is given by small crystal trimmings of the highest quality, hung on a metal (brass) structure in a gold or silver finish.

— Maria Theresa Chandeliers Large — rich crystal decoration and the characteristic metal arms sleeved in glass, for a festive, formal impression.

— Custom Chandeliers Traditional — the answer for spaces that call for individual dimensions and a finish that follows classical or historic decoration.

— Custom Lighting Modern — original shapes and arrangements adapted to the architecture of today's hotels, public buildings and private residences.

Large chandeliers for entrance halls and above a staircase

When choosing a chandelier for a high hall or above a staircase, what matters is the ceiling height and also where the fitting will be seen from — from below, from an upper floor or from a gallery. Above a staircase an elongated model often comes into its own, while a spacious hall suits a wider chandelier. We adjust the drop so that the fitting hangs at the height you want without obstructing passage or the view. You will find inspiration for your own space in the article Staircase Lighting: A Symphony of Light in Interior Design.

„I remember that the largest chandelier we supplied went to Greece — it was a Maria Theresa chandelier, six metres including the drop. But size is not what makes a commission demanding. In the foyer of the Máj department store in Prague there are also two Maria Theresa chandeliers, and more than a hundred smaller fittings around them; all of them had to hold together as one whole. That is the hardest part of a large hall — not one chandelier, but the entire space.“

Lighting for hotels, restaurants and public buildings

In a hotel lobby, a restaurant or a function room, the lighting has to serve everyday operation as well as formal occasions. In a long space, several matched fittings often work better than one large chandelier. With dimmable bulbs and compatible controls you can then set the light to the time of day and to the event being held. The article How Lighting Shapes the Guest Experience and Revenue sets out more of the background.

„In a hotel or a restaurant it is not enough for a fitting to be beautiful — it has to stand up to daily use, and ideally do a practical job as well. The chandelier above the bar at Fly Vista follows the shape of the counter and at the same time serves as a rack for glasses: the barman has them within reach, and their glass becomes part of the fitting. It was made for exactly this space, to the client's wish.“

Looking for inspiration for a space like your own? In the food court of the Máj department store in Prague you can see an arrangement of more than 300 of our fittings. A single striking chandelier can create an occasion just as well, though. For the town ball in Jablonec nad Nisou we lent a 90-kilogram model whose assembly on site took over ten hours. You can see it at our showroom in Jablonec nad Nisou.

Crystal lighting for churches and historic halls

Are you working on the lighting of a church, a chapel or a historic hall? Fittings by ArtCrystal Tomeš can be found in churches across Europe.

The lighting of a church is often decided by a parish, an association or a municipality — and it is a choice made for decades. That is why we do not begin by picking a model from the catalogue. First we assess the height of the vault, the sight lines, how visible the chandelier is from different places, and keeping a clear view of the altar.

With listed buildings it is worth getting in touch before the final decision. The form of the fitting, its position, the method of fixing and the route of the wiring all need to be agreed in good time. Experience with similar projects helps to prepare the documents so that the whole process runs more smoothly. Photographs and the dimensions of the space are enough for us; the proposal and the visualisation are free of charge.

Inspiration from our projects

Take a look at our sacred-space projects in these articles:

— Crystal Beneath Church Vaults — the restoration of the lighting in the Church of All Saints in Boněnov and the project in the church at Veľké Vozokany in Slovakia.

— Lighting That Brought New Radiance to the Church of St. Stefan in Croatia — working with the restorers of an Orthodox church, where the main chandeliers were completed by wall lights in the same style.

— Illuminating History: Light in Sacred Architecture — examples from the Church of St. George in Bělotín and the Church of St. Urban in Nejdek.

From the proposal to delivery and installation

To prepare a solution, send us photographs, the dimensions of the space and drawings if you have them. The proposal and the visualisation help in judging the look and the proportions; the load-bearing structure, the method of fixing and access for installation and for later servicing have to be checked separately.

With large fittings we also plan the packing, the transport, the unloading and the route to the point where it will hang. Depending on its construction, a chandelier travels in parts and is assembled on site. Before you order, we set out the scope of the delivery and the installation, so that it is clear what the transport covers and what equipment will be needed.

Have you chosen a model, or do you have a bespoke fitting in mind? Write to us. We will prepare a visualisation free of charge and agree the next steps for your project.

Frequently asked questions

How do I choose a chandelier for a high ceiling?

Consider the width and height of the room, the point where it will hang and the views from each floor. The overall height of the chandelier including the chain matters.

The guide on the product page serves as a first orientation; for high halls, staircases and unusual spaces we recommend an individual assessment and a visualisation. Above places people walk through, sufficient clearance has to remain, according to the use and the requirements of the particular building.

Which chandelier suits a church or a chateau hall?

It depends on the architecture, the historic decoration and the lighting effect you want. Large crystal chandeliers, Maria Theresa models and traditional bespoke fittings can all work.

In a church it is important to keep the view of the altar; in a hall, to take account of the layout of the tables or the use of the dance floor. We work out the right form and position for the particular interior.

How much does a large chandelier weigh and what load must the ceiling bear?

The weight differs with the dimensions, the construction and the number of glass parts. The exact figure has to be checked for the chosen model or in the project documentation.

Judging the hook alone is not enough: the fixing and the load-bearing structure must both carry the load. Their suitability should be verified by a professional, and depending on the situation by a structural engineer. A chandelier cannot be hung from an ordinary suspended ceiling without a proper load-bearing solution.

Who installs a large chandelier and how long does it take?

The installation can be carried out by our own technicians. It covers assembling the fitting, mounting the glass parts, hanging it and connecting it to the electrical supply professionally.

The time depends on the size of the chandelier, the number of trimmings, how ready the site is and the access. A complex installation can be several days' work; we set out the actual schedule once the project has been assessed.

Can the length of the chain be changed?

Yes, we work out the drop you need according to the model and the height of the space. The adjustment also has to take account of the supply cable and the load-bearing capacity of the suspension parts.

It is therefore best to agree the overall height before manufacture or dispatch.

How many bulbs does a large chandelier take and how are they changed?

Depending on the model, from four to more than fifty; half of the large chandeliers in the range take eighteen or more. The most common cap is E14.

With numbers like that it pays to choose long-life LED sources and to plan the change together with the cleaning — reaching the height is handled the same way as when the fitting was installed.

How is a large chandelier cleaned at height?

Access for cleaning and for changing the light sources is best planned at the design stage. Depending on the space, a work platform, scaffolding or a technically suitable lowering mechanism can be used. The mechanism is not automatically part of a chandelier and whether it can be used depends on the weight of the fitting and on the structure of the building.

For the trimmings themselves a crystal chandelier cleaner is used; the whole procedure, with a video, is shown in the article How to easily clean a crystal chandelier.

Cleaning is done with the power disconnected and according to the manufacturer's instructions.
