When Light Becomes Part of the Architecture: Café Otava

For the newly opened Café Otava, one of the landmarks of the historic centre of Písek in South Bohemia, we made and installed nine design light fittings measuring 80 cm in diameter and 110 cm in height. Brass rings hung with hand-cut glass tubes create a striking play of light and reflection. The design came from architect Šimon Brnada of PH6 Atelier; ArtCrystal Tomeš handled the realisation from production through to installation.
Lighting a luxury villa in Prague: six rooms, one crystal signature

The owner of a Prague villa wanted a single thread of light running through the whole interior. He entrusted the lighting of the entire house to ArtCrystal Tomeš — from the living room and dining room through the kitchen and bedroom to the bathroom and hallway. Some of the fittings came from our catalogue collections; two of the most striking pieces we designed and made specifically for this space.

That tension is exactly what the industrial crystal chandelier is built on: a light that brings brilliance, broken across cut edges, into a raw world of concrete and brick. There are two routes to that contrast. The classic one places a traditional crystal chandelier in the middle of a bare loft as a decorative counterpoint. The second goes further and unites both worlds within the fitting itself – steel, brass or aluminium paired with cut glass and crystal.
