Ceiling lights by shape and design

A ceiling light can be a discreet addition or a striking feature of the room. It depends on its shape, the arrangement of the trimmings and the distance from the ceiling. Choose the design that suits your space:

— Ceiling Lights Basket — rows of crystal trimmings form a rounded basket shape that works in both classic and contemporary interiors.

— Flush Ceiling Lights — crystal decoration mounted close to the ceiling. A practical choice wherever you need to keep plenty of room below the light.

— Ceiling Lights Square — geometric shapes that follow the clean lines of furniture. Rectangular models also sit well above a long dining table.

— Crystal Lights Spiral — trimmings arranged in a spiral create a striking spatial composition. Longer models come into their own above a staircase or under a higher ceiling.

— Ceiling spot lighting crystal — smaller fittings with a crystal detail that you can place along a hallway or use to complement the main lighting.

— Vintage Ceiling Lights — models inspired by the charm of older interiors, easy to combine with furniture and objects that have a history.

Crystal under a lower ceiling

A lower ceiling does not have to mean a small light. A wider model with a smaller height can give the room a strong feature while keeping it airy. What decides is the overall height of the light, including the way it is fixed.

Leave at least 210 cm of clear height below the light; this matches the headroom required for the entrance areas of a dwelling by the applicable building standard. With a ceiling of 2.5 metres, that leaves you roughly 40 centimetres for the fitting. Within that height there are 219 lights in our range, and the lowest flush-mounted models measure around 23 centimetres.

See how our customers solved it in a modern apartment in Košice. For the living room and the bedroom they chose the same basket model in two sizes. Mounted directly against the ceiling, the lights followed the line of the suspended ceiling and brought both rooms together.

Lighting that works together

You can complement a ceiling light with wall lights from the same collection, or with a similar shape of trimmings and the same metal finish. That gives you a coordinated interior and the option to change the mood depending on which lights you switch on. Spot lighting can then pick out a worktop, a picture or individual parts of the room on its own.

In an open-plan living space, a flush-mounted model can also be combined with a crystal chandelier above the dining table.

When you want to adapt a model

Sometimes it is enough to change the finish; at other times the space calls for a different size or shape. In a Swiss interior, a rectangular light was adapted to a matt gold finish so that it matched the warm tones of the furnishings. For a family guesthouse in Louny, two entirely new lights with an S-curved base were created from a catalogue model.

Can I see a ceiling light in person?

Yes. The models on display in our showroom in Jablonec nad Nisou, the historic centre of Czech glassmaking, are marked with the “Showroom” icon on the product page.

Across 590 m² you can see more than 250 lights in furnished settings, which makes it far easier to judge their size, their finish and the way they look once switched on.

Which light should I choose for a low ceiling?

Look at flush-mounted models with a smaller overall height. There is no universal minimum ceiling height: it depends on the dimensions of the light and on whether you walk underneath it or it sits above furniture.

What is the difference between a flush-mounted and a pendant light?

A flush-mounted light is fixed close against the ceiling and takes up less height. A pendant light hangs on a chain, a cable or a rod and lets you bring the light lower into the room, above a dining table for example.

Whether the drop can be altered depends on the particular model.

What size of ceiling light suits a room?

Take into account the floor area and the shape of the room, the ceiling height and the layout of the furniture. A larger room may need a wider light or several light points.

Diameter alone does not determine the amount of light; the luminous flux of the bulbs and the rest of the lighting matter too. The first recommendation is in the guide on the product page.

Which rooms are ceiling lights suitable for?

Flush-mounted models work in hallways, bedrooms, living rooms and kitchens. In a long hallway, several smaller lights in a row are often the better answer. Above a dining table, what decides is the proportion to the tabletop and the height of light you want.

Can I use a ceiling light in a bathroom?

Only if the particular model is suitable for the intended position. What decides is its IP rating, the distance from the bath or shower and the installation conditions, which are set by the applicable wiring standard dividing the bathroom into zones. A flush-mounted design does not in itself make a light suitable for a bathroom; before ordering, have the specification and the position checked by an electrician.

How crystal can look in a bathroom is shown by the villa in Prague, where it was combined with marble and a fine view over the city.

Can a light be fitted to a plasterboard ceiling?

Yes, provided the load-bearing capacity of the structure and the method of fixing allow it. Before installation you need to know the weight of the light and the build-up of the suspended ceiling.

Heavier models may call for reinforcement or fixing into the structural ceiling. An installation technician will assess the right solution.

Which bulbs do ceiling lights use?

Most often E14 or G9; the smaller G9 cap is used mainly in lights with a lower overall height. The exact cap type and the maximum wattage are given in the specification of each light.

How is a ceiling light cleaned?

On flush-mounted models the trimmings usually stay in place; it is enough to wipe them carefully with a cloth dampened with a cleaner for crystal chandeliers. The advantage is that the light hangs lower than a chandelier, so you can reach it from a stepladder.

Always switch off the circuit breaker before cleaning and let the bulbs cool down; the cleaner must not get into the lamp holders.
