Brass Chandeliers, page 5 (212 items)

Choose from a collection of more than 200 brass chandeliers and light fittings.

Brass stands out for the beauty of the metal and for finely worked detail — from rich ornament and floral motifs to smooth arms with clean lines. You will find decorative cast fittings, historic and rustic pieces, and more restrained models for contemporary interiors.

The golden tones of brass sit well with wood and other natural materials, while in a modern space they create an elegant contrast. The collection is completed by brass ceiling lights, suitable for rooms with a lower ceiling as well.

Every fitting in the ArtCrystal Tomeš range is made in the Czech Republic — which is why we can adjust the size, the number of bulbs and the design to your own space. Send us a photograph of the interior and we will prepare a visualisation free of charge.

Brass chandeliers by style and finish

Brass makes up both the structure and the character of a chandelier — from richly decorated arms and bodies cast in moulds to smooth, gleaming lines in a contemporary finish. The metal parts are completed by glass or crystal trimmings, which can lend a fitting delicacy, sparkle or a strongly decorative presence. It is precisely the combination of the shape of the brass, the surface finish and the trimmings that opens up wide room for a style of your own — from models with a historic feel to purely modern fittings.

„With cast fittings we carry on the traditional handwork. It is passed down through the generations, everyone guards their own know-how — and every part made this way is an original. Brass is not a matter of historic models alone; we use metal components in our modern ranges too.

When I see an imitation today, I recognise it above all by the metal. Our parts are worked through to the last detail, honest and solid. In an imitation the mould is simplified so that it is easy to produce, the material is thin and the parts tend to be hollow — and that is why such a fitting simply falls apart in time.

Brass lasts. But only brass that has been made honestly.“

Bořivoj Tomeš, owner of ArtCrystal Tomeš

—   Cast Fitting Chandeliers — the arms and other parts are made by casting in moulds; their reliefs, floral motifs and patina give the fitting a decorative character.

—   Chandeliers with Metal Arms — a smoother structure, in which the shape of the arms and the pairing of metal with crystal parts or shades comes to the fore.

—   Historic Lighting — models drawn from period sources, for villas, chateaux, hotels and sensitively restored interiors.

—   Rustic Chandeliers — brass combined with wood, beams and natural materials, for dining rooms, attic rooms and homes with a country feel.

—   Ceiling Lights Brass — flush-mounted models with a brass structure, for hallways, bedrooms and other rooms with a lower ceiling.

Chandeliers also go well with brass wall lights — they complete the central light by a mirror, in a hallway or at either side of a bed.

Brass and crystal in one interior

The brass parts can carry the whole visual character of a chandelier, or form a warm frame for clear crystal. A gold finish usually picks up on brass handles, frames and fittings, while silver reads as more neutral. When choosing, look not only at the shade of the metal but also at the style of the furniture, the walls and the other lights in the room.

How to work with brass, crystal and surface finish in different kinds of interior is shown in the article Brass chandeliers into your stylish interior. The contemporary face of brass is also presented by the Café Otava project, where nine fittings with brass rings and hand-cut glass tubes came into being together with the architecture of the space.

For the interiors of cottages, country houses and attic rooms you will find inspiration in the article Chandeliers for the interior of a country house. Brass follows on naturally here from wood, beams and other natural materials.

Historic interiors and bespoke fittings

In a historic house or a listed building we choose the fitting with regard to the architecture, the surviving detail and the character of the interior. Its proportion, surface finish and the way it is hung all matter, so that it completes the space naturally and respects its value.

The development of brass chandeliers and their place among the iconic fittings is set out in the article Iconic Chandeliers Through the Centuries.

Before installation in a listed building it is advisable to agree the appearance of the fitting, its position, the fixing and the route of the wiring with the heritage authority in good time. Requirements differ from one building to the next. We will take care of both the making and professional installation by our own technicians.

Caring for a brass fitting

The surface finish and the patina are part of how the fitting looks. For everyday care, therefore, use only a soft dry or slightly damp cloth. Aggressive cleaning agents and metal polishes can damage the surface or change its shade. Switch the fitting off before any more thorough cleaning and follow the instructions for the particular model.

Frequently asked questions
How can I check the shade of the brass before buying?

The golden tone, the gleam and the patina of brass all read differently depending on the lighting and the surrounding colours. If you would like to see the finish in person, the models with the „Showroom“ icon are on display at our showroom in Jablonec nad Nisou, the historic centre of Czech glassmaking.

You can compare the shades across several fittings there and pick the one that suits your interior best.

Which brass chandelier suits a historic house?

Start from the age and character of the building, from the decoration of the ceiling, the furniture and the other metal elements. A richly decorated interior suits cast or historic models; a more restrained house may be a better fit for chandeliers with smoother metal arms.

Besides style, take into account the size of the fitting, the hanging height and the finish of the metal. Before deciding, we recommend a visualisation in the actual space.

What is a cast brass chandelier?

The decorative parts of a cast chandelier — the arms, the body and the ornamental elements, for instance — are made from cast brass. Their shaping, reliefs and ornament are the result of honest handwork and of craft know-how passed from one generation to the next.

It is exactly this detail that gives cast chandeliers their unmistakable character.

What has to be agreed with the heritage authority before installation?

Above all the appearance of the fitting, its position, the method of fixing and the route of the wiring. The heritage authority may require particular documents or approval of the proposal.

It is therefore good to start in good time, before ordering and before preparing the installation.

What bulbs are used in brass chandeliers?

Almost always E14, and E27 in a few models. The exact cap type and the maximum wattage are given in the specifications of every fitting.

For historic models and replicas we recommend warm-light bulbs — the golden tones of the brass come out better with them.

How should a brass fitting be looked after?

Remove dust with a soft dry cloth. Do not use abrasives or ordinary brass polishes on a patinated or lacquered surface.

If you are not sure, write to us with a photograph of the fitting and we will advise on the right approach.

Does brass suit a modern interior?

Yes. Smooth brass structures, simple shapes and clear crystal can make a strong yet still elegant detail. The golden tone comes out beside dark wood, stone and neutral colours, while a silver finish reads more quietly.
