How to change a light bulb easily?

Added 25.2.2022 11:31.14

Have you broken a bulb in your crystal chandelier, crystal table lamp or wall lamp and need to replace it? In this article, we'll show you how to do it quickly and easily.

Choosing the right bulb is essential

Do you know what the hardest part of changing a light bulb is? Choosing the right type. It has to be a bulb with a suitable base. And this can vary from one type of lighting to another. Our crystal chandeliers are usually fitted with standardised threads for E14 or E27 bulbs, while spot ceiling lights usually only fit bulbs with GU10 threads. And wall lights and lamps are compatible with E14 threads.

With the type of bulb base clarified, you can now start thinking about the type of bulb. Then it depends on your preference, whether you prefer a low purchase price, great economy, or long life. And, of course, what colour or intensity of light you want in the room.

Our article Choosing a light bulb quickly and easily will make this process much easier. We'll assume you've already made your choice and know the differences in luminosity between the different types, so we'll get straight to the point. Don't let reading this article take as long as it takes you to change the bulb afterwards. Don't worry, it'll be quick.

Anyone can change a light bulb

Changing a light bulb is easy. It's a task so simple that even a child could do it, but you'd better do it yourself. Just follow these instructions.

Replacing a light bulb step by step

Let's take a look at an example of one of our most popular products

  1. First, disconnect the luminaire's electrical circuit from the mains by switching off its circuit breaker so you don't get electrocuted. Then unscrew the old bulb. If you don't succeed and maybe there is a piece left, just take a pair of pliers, insert them into the bulb thread and unscrew the bulb.

  2. Then remove the new bulb from the box and screw it into the threads of the fixture. We recommend using gloves or a cloth when doing this, as fingerprints on the bulb can reduce its luminosity and increase failure rates.

  3. Make sure the new bulb is firmly seated in the thread. Do not pull the bulb too hard to avoid damaging it.

  4. Turn on the circuit breaker and test that the bulb is lit. You'll see that it definitely does. And if by chance it doesn't, the fault probably isn't yours, but the fixture or the electrical circuits. So in that case, contact an electrician.
